News: The Keurig Rivo Is Discontinued

No More Keurig Rivo Machines…

Have you been interested or wanting to know more about the Keurig Rivo? It’s Keurig’s first espresso maker but I have found out that it, too, has claimed a spot in the “discontinued” lineup since the end of 2016.  OK…Apparently, I did not get the memo on this one until recently.

Apologies in advance, as so many developments, take place industry-wise and just keeping up with them all can be kind of, well, laborious. (Yeah, I might use a VA or personal secretary sometimes :o)

So, moving on, the Rivo is the first release by Keurig that is designed for making top-notch gourmet espresso beverages – It’s got an attractive design complete with a milk frother, pretty similar to the Lattissima Pro and the Plus.

The Keurig Rivo Has Been Discontinued

“Rivo” is Italian for “revolutionary” (Aren’t all those Italian names great? I wonder what the Vue is named for…?)

But if you go to check it out on Amazon, you will see that it is out of stock. Nice looking, that, but it was designed to work exclusively with Lavazza brand pods – a brand which is great, but there’s that “works only with….” thing again that throws a monkey wrench in people’s coffee shopping enjoyment.

Here is a good story on Consumer Reports that talks about the Rivo and the pod situation in greater depth. So again, it comes down to that ol’ bugaboo of pod type again. The gist of it is that the pod that is compatible with the Rivo, the Lavazza – is going to be locatable, or they should -at least for the next three years.

Now if you’re reading this right now and you have a different story – you happen to be the owner of a Rivo…you may be concerned about locating the correct pods. For what it’s worth, I was able to locate some:

Some Good News…

I always heard the maxim, “sometimes a door closes, but a window opens”. The Rivo has been supplanted by a whole new espresso-dedicated maker, the K-Cafe. It looks very interesting and nice and best of all, does not have pod restrictions on it. I want to go shopping and see if I can scout out more info for your benefit, which I hope to do at a later date.

Any thoughts? Did you think the Rivo had a good design or concept? Do you think it should have stayed on the market,  and if you do own one how easy or difficult is it to find the appropriate pods?

I was given a Rivo. It came with a bunch of pods and I started to investigate getting more. When I found out about the upcoming shortage, I looked at using the pods I had. I found sealing caps on Amazon. I kept my old pods and started reusing them. The espresso I like isn’t offered in the pods anyway. It does not take that long to clean, refill, and seal the pods. I have reused them many times and will keep doing this until the machine dies. I love the unit. It’s simple, efficient, and very easy to clean. I personally think it was kicking butt and pulling sales from other companies, including LaVazza, and that’s why the pods were dropped.

    1. Glad you have been enjoying the Rivo! And that’s great that you’re able to be resourceful like that and keep the pods to reuse again. Yes, sometimes these companies do tricky things to undercut their competitors 😊☕️.

What are these called on Amazon? I have tried to fing them. Also what about the holes already punched in the bottom of the used capsule???

Came by chance on this site, but I was one for the first people to learn about the Rivo pods discontinuation. It was at the lowest part of their Keuring web page, and even their support and customer service line did not know about it. Talk about professionalism!!
The wonderful news I can provide all, is forget Amazon and other sites they are so expensive. Proudly, there is a Canadian company that provides the pods, same name Lavazza Rivo, and at the same price as Keurig. They are even offering free shipping if you buy at Cad$50.00. Keuring now is $80,
I am trying to help every one to know about it so they keep the pods for all who use it. So I also can keep enjoying my Delicato .

Once my machine gets bad or no pods, I am moving to Nespresso, Keurig proved not a good customer oriented supplier.
My 2 cents and all Rivo cup fans, hope I was able to help
Best to all and soon Merry Christmas Canada and the whole world.

  3. Keurig should have been obligated to have a reusable pod manufactured for customers who paid a lot of money for what turned out to be a waste! We only drink Espresso occasionally and not having Fresh pods available To purchase when we want to use the machine is directly related to the discontinuation of these machines. TOTALLY POOR of Keurig!

Purchased 5 other Keurig machines before buying this machine and two more as gifts shortly after. Will Never Again!!!

  4. I just bought the Keurig Lavazza from a friend. Where is the best and most economical place to get the pods. I live in Ontario Canada & hope they are available somewhere.

    1. I live in the US, so don’t know how much info I can provide….I did see that Amazon.ca carries them, it looked like a package of 12 was about 10.94 CDN.
